Elizabeth II was crowned as the Queen of the United Kingdom and 14 other Commonwealth Realms on 2nd June in 1953. After reigning as Queen for almost 70 years, Elizabeth is the first British Monarch to have a Platinum Jubilee celebration.

Platinum Jubilee: The Queen’s Coronation
Visitors to Windsor Castle will have the rare chance to see, up close, the Queen’s Coronation Dress and the Robe of Estate that she wore for her coronation ceremony at Westminster Abbey on 2 June 1953.
While it was one of the world’s first major events to be broadcast internationally, the chance to see these two garments is rare, making it an exhibition that you don’t want to miss.
The Coronation Dress is made with fine white Duchesse satin and embellished with gold and silver threading, seed pearls, sequins and crystals. Her Majesty's Robe of Estate—which took around 3,500 hours to make—is equally awe-inspiring with rich gold embroidery and motifs.

The Coronation Dress
Designed by British courtier Sir Norman Hartnell, the white gown is short-sleeved with a sweetheart neckline and a wide skirt adorned with crystals, silver and pearls that depict the national emblems of Great Britain and other commonwealth nations.
The Coronation Robe
The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee exhibition displays Her Majesty's Robe of Estate. This coronation robe, by the royal robe-makers Ede and Ravenscroft, was made with deep purple silk velvet with ermine on the edges and embroidered with gold threads. The intricate design features wheat ears and olive branches and is monogrammed with a crowned EIIR.

Buckingham Palace will also hold two exhibitions for the occasion of the Queen's Platinum Jubilee. The Queen's Accession exhibition tells you about how she became the Queen and you will get to see the world-famous Dorothy Wilding portraits of Her Majesty as well. The other Japan: Courts and Culture exhibition will display rare Japanese porcelain items that the British Royal Family has received by the Japanese Royal Family over the past 300 years.

Palace of Holyroodhouse Exhibitions
There are two more exhibitions at the Palace of Holyroodhouse, Queen Elizabeth's home in Edinburgh. The Masterpieces from Buckingham Palace will display artworks from some world-famous artists that have been collected by the Royal Collection Trust over the years. There will also be a Platinum Jubilee Display that will showcase some of the outfits that the Queen had adorned for her previous jubilee celebrations.
