  • Please note: The top two floors of the house and Swiss Cottage will be closed over the winter period (7 Nov - 1 Apr 2023) for important conservation work. The ground floor of the house and the grounds will be open as usual.
  • Note: From 11 Nov to 17 Mar 2024, access to the house will be via guided tours only. Tours take approx. 45 mins and run every 20 mins from 10am to 3pm. On arrival, you'll be allocated the next available tour.
  • Accessibility Mini Bus Service: There is a limited minibus service between the house and Queen Victoria’s Beach at the venue. As the service runs at reduced capacity, visitors who can explore the site without this service, are requested to do so.

Osborne House | A Royal reverie on the Isle of Wight

In 1845, Queen Victoria and Prince Albert bought the Osborne estate as a place for them to build a private home away from court life. For over 50 years, the royal couple used Osborne House to welcome dignitaries and raise their children. After Queen Victoria's death, the estate was given to the nation and later, opened to the public. Even today, much of the original furniture and art adorn the rooms of Osborne House and you can catch a glimpse of what life was like for the royals from their private apartments and lavish reception rooms.
