Opening in 1705 as Queen’s Theatre, His Majesty's Theatre was designed by John Vanbrugh. It was here that the performances of Mozart’s La clemenza di Tito, Così fan tutte, and Don Giovanni unfolded for the first time in the early 19th century. Interestingly, the name of the theater changed along with the gender of the monarch. For instance, in 1714, it came to be known as the King’s Theatre when George I came into power.
