In Chamber of Secrets, Harry first enters Dumbledore’s office, where he meets Fawkes and speaks with the Sorting Hat. This early scene sets the tone for Dumbledore’s future role as a guide and protector.
Built with dramatic height and detail, Dumbledore’s Office was designed to reflect the Headmaster’s intellect and curiosity. The set includes magical telescopes, delicate orbs, a memory cabinet, and the Pensieve, all featured throughout the films during key story moments.
The set at the Studio is the original used during filming, with some redressing and reconfiguration done across the series. Many props remain exactly as seen on screen.
You cannot walk inside the actual set due to preservation, but you can view it closely from the outside and see deep into all areas thanks to its open design.
Fawkes and the Sorting Hat are both elevated. To photograph them clearly, stand slightly off-center and avoid using flash to reduce glass glare and reflections.
While there’s nothing hands-on, kids often enjoy spotting “hidden” items like Fawkes, the glowing instruments, or the labelled memory vials, which feel like a treasure hunt.
The lighting is carefully programmed to shift in tone and intensity depending on your position. It’s a mix of warm spotlights and cooler background hues for contrast.
You can photograph it, but sitting or leaning on the gargoyle or barriers isn’t allowed. The area is monitored to preserve prop quality for all visitors.
